The seed beads on these hoops display such fun colors. They remind me of bright birds flying through a tropical paradise!
Simple hoops receive a style upgrade with help from an Artbeads Designer Seed Bead Blend. Cheri stitched the seed beads to the hoops to create an eye-catching and colorful look. This look is easy to customize with Blends in other colors. You can see more inspiration for using some of our Seed Bead Blends in this Artbeads Cafe episode.
Knot your thread to a sterling silver 1x22mm heavy closed jump ring. Thread two teal beads from the Artbeads Highland Meadows Designer Blend onto the needle and slide them down to the top of the ring. Bring your thread through the center of the ring and then up through the second bead on your thread.
Add a teal bead to the thread and slide it down to the adjacent bead on the ring. Bring your thread through the ring and then up through the bottom of the bead just added. Continue adding beads in this manner for a total of 35 beads, as show in figure 1 of the Tropical Horizon PDF Diagram. Connect the last bead added to the first bead added by going through the ring and up through the bottom of the first bead.
With your thread exiting out of the top of a bead in the first row, add two turquoise beads from the Blend and use the brick stitch technique to connect them to the previous row of beads, as show in figure 2 of the PDF diagram.
With your thread exiting out of the top of a bead in the second row, add three coral beads from the Blend to the thread. Hook under the thread in the second row as you did in the previous step, and then bring your thread up through only the last bead in the trio, as shown in figure 3 of the PDF diagram. Repeat this process about 14 times, only adding two beads per stitch. When you've hooked the last bead to the thread, go back through the last sequence of three beads. Then, bring your thread down through the turquoise bead between the three beads, as shown in figure 3 of the diagram. Bring your thread up through the next turquoise bead over and then back up through the last two coral beads added.
Now that your thread is coming out of the top coral bead of the last three coral beads added, add an orange bead to the thread, as shown in figure 4 of the diagram. Then, go through the next top coral bead over. Continue adding orange beads in this manner until you reach the end of the row. Bring your thread through the next top coral bead and then down through the last coral bead in the row. Bring your thread down through the adjacent turquoise bead in the previous row and then over and up through the next turquoise bead. Go back up through the last two coral beads in the row and then through the final orange bead added.
Add an orange bead, a green bead, and an orange bead to the thread, as shown in figure 5 of the diagram. Skip over one orange bead in the previous row and bring your thread through the next orange bead in the previous row. Repeat twice. Add one coral bead to the thread and then bring your thread through the next orange bead in the previous row. Make a mirror image of the bead pattern to finish the row.
Weave through the pattern as shown in figure 6 of the diagram until your thread is exiting between the two orange beads closest to the center. Add a turquoise bead and then go through the center red bead. Add another turquoise bead and weave back into the pattern until you are coming out of the orange, green, and orange scallop closest to the center. Go back through the last turquoise bead added and add a turquoise bead, a green bead, and a turquoise bead. Go through the turquoise bead on the other side of the center red bead. Secure the thread by weaving it into the pattern and trim.
Start a new thread at the top of the hoop. With your thread exiting out of one of the two center turquoise beads, add three coral beads to the thread. Bring your thread down through the other center turquoise bead. Go up through the next turquoise bead over. Add an orange bead, two turquoise beads, a green bead, two turquoise beads, and an orange bead to the thread. Bring these beads over the trio of coral beads and bring your thread down through the next turquoise bead over on the beaded hoop. Go back up through the first orange and turquoise beads added, then bring your thread through the top coral bead in the trio and the next turquoise bead over. With your thread exiting between the top green bead and a turquoise bead, loop the thread around a sterling silver 4.60mm open jump ring several times. Weave back into the beads and attach the thread to the jump ring from the other side of the center green bead in the same manner. Go through these beads several times to strengthen. Secure and trim your thread.
Open the loop of the ball end earwire and attach it to the jump ring at the top of your beaded hoop. Close the loop.
Repeat steps 1-9 to create the other earring.
