The Matubo SuperDuo Duets in this bracelet are half black and half white. They play tricks on the eye and seem to shift as you move the bracelet.
Orca whales are known for their black and white markings. These colors look slick and smooth underwater and also glisten beautifully above the surface of the sea. The SuperDuo beads on display in this bracelet capture that look wonderfully. The SuperDuo Duet beads shimmer back and forth from black to white thanks to their special dual coating, while a diamond pattern at the center of the bracelet adds even more detail.
Start with a comfortable length of thread, approximately one to two yards. Add a bead stopper to one end.
Follow the Orca Pod Diagram PDF for the bead count and pattern for your bracelet. This diagram will also help you line up the SuperDuo Duet beads according to their color pattern. The champagne side of the Duet beads will face toward the center of the bracelet. Stringing through just one hole of the SuperDuos, add one Matubo SuperDuo Duet 2x5mm 2-hole black and white champagne luster seed bead (bead 1) and a TOHO 11/0 bead round in opaque shiny jet black (bead 2). Repeat this pattern four times, then add a SuperDuo Duet (bead 11) to finish the row.
Bring your thread through the second hole of bead 11. Add a Superduo Duet (bead 12) and go through the second hole of bead 9. Add a SuperDuo Duet bead (bead 13) and go through the second hole of bead 7. Add a Matubo SuperDuo 2x5mm 2-hole jet seed bead to the thread (bead 14) and then go through the second hole of bead 5. Add a Duet bead (bead 15) and go through the second hole of bead 3. Add a Duet bead (bead 16) and go through the second hole of bead 1. Add a TOHO to the thread (bead 17).
Add a Duet bead (bead 18) to the thread and go through the second hole of bead 16. Continue adding Duet beads and going through the second hole of the beads in the last row until you reach the end of the row. After adding your last Duet (bead 23) to the thread, add a TOHO (bead 24). This time we are going to circle backwards. Go back through the second hole of bead 11, then through the adjacent hole of bead 12. Bring your thread through the second hole of bead 12 and back through the first hole of bead 23. Go through the next hole of this bead to get ready for the next row. Note that you will circle around like this every time you come to this outside edge. This should be the edge that does not have the stopper bead.
Add a Duet (bead 25) to the thread. Go through the second hole of bead 22. Add a Duet (bead 26) and go through the second hole of bead 21. Add a Matubo Super Due 2x5mm 2-hole opaque champagne luster seed bead(bead 27) to the thread and go through the second hole of bead 20. Add a Duet (bead 28) and go through the second hole of bead 19. Add a Duet (bead 29) and go through the second hole of bead 18. Add a TOHO (bead 30) to the thread.
Continue making your bracelet following the color pattern in the diagram until it is the desired length. Our bracelet features seven white diamond patterns and fits a size 6 3/4 wrist.
To add the clasp, make sure your thread is coming out of the Duet bead next to the center TOHO on the end of the bracelet. Add a TOHO to the thread followed by one hole of a black SuperDuo and another TOHO. Add the loop component of the TierraCast black finish pewter large tapered clasp set by looping your thread around the small ring of the clasp several times. Then add another TOHO to the thread and go through the second hole of the first black SuperDuo you added. Add a TOHO and go through the Duet bead on the other side of the center TOHO on the end of the bracelet, toward the center TOHO. Pass through the center TOHO and the Duet bead on the other side, then back up through the TOHOs and black SuperDuo. Loop around the clasp again and come back down through the TOHOs and other hole of the black SuperDuo. Secure your thread by weaving it back into the body of the bracelet and trim.
Remove the stopper bead from the tail of your thread and either use the tail or add a new thread to add the bar component of the toggle clasp. You will use the same techniques used to add the loop component. You may want to make this end longer, so it more easily fits through the loop and to adjust the size. You can do this by adding more TOHOs and SuperDuo beads (see the PDF diagram).

Step-by-Step Instructions

The champagne side of the Duet beads will face toward the center of the bracelet. Stringing through just one hole of the SuperDuos, add one Matubo SuperDuo Duet 2x5mm 2-hole black and white champagne luster seed bead (bead 1) and a TOHO 11/0 bead round in opaque shiny jet black (bead 2). Repeat this pattern four times, then add a SuperDuo Duet (bead 11) to finish the row.
Bring your thread through the second hole of bead 11. Add a Superduo Duet (bead 12) and go through the second hole of bead 9. Add a SuperDuo Duet bead (bead 13) and go through the second hole of bead 7. Add a Matubo SuperDuo 2x5mm 2-hole jet seed bead to the thread (bead 14) and then go through the second hole of bead 5. Add a Duet bead (bead 15) and go through the second hole of bead 3. Add a Duet bead (bead 16) and go through the second hole of bead 1. Add a TOHO to the thread (bead 17).
Add a Duet bead (bead 18) to the thread and go through the second hole of bead 16. Continue adding Duet beads and going through the second hole of the beads in the last row until you reach the end of the row. After adding your last Duet (bead 23) to the thread, add a TOHO (bead 24). This time we are going to circle backwards. Go back through the second hole of bead 11, then through the adjacent hole of bead 12. Bring your thread through the second hole of bead 12 and back through the first hole of bead 23. Go through the next hole of this bead to get ready for the next row. Note that you will circle around like this every time you come to this outside edge. This should be the edge that does not have the stopper bead.
Add a Duet (bead 25) to the thread. Go through the second hole of bead 22. Add a Duet (bead 26) and go through the second hole of bead 21. Add a Matubo Super Due 2x5mm 2-hole opaque champagne luster seed bead(bead 27) to the thread and go through the second hole of bead 20. Add a Duet (bead 28) and go through the second hole of bead 19. Add a Duet (bead 29) and go through the second hole of bead 18. Add a TOHO (bead 30) to the thread.
Continue making your bracelet following the color pattern in the diagram until it is the desired length. Our bracelet features seven white diamond patterns and fits a size 6 3/4 wrist.
