Use the peyote bezel technique you'll learn in this tutorial to make bezels for all kinds of beautiful focals like the hand-painted bead featured in this necklace.
Cut a 3-feet length of thread and add a needle to the thread. Add 21 TOHO Treasure 11/0 orange-lined peridot rainbow seed beads to the thread, followed by two ceylon frosted banana creme TOHO Treasures, 29 peridot Treasures, two banana Treasures, 21 peridot Treasures, two banana Treasures, 29 peridot Treasures, and two banana treasures. Bring your thread back through all of the seed beads to form a loop. Tie a knot with the tail end and working end of your thread and then bring your thread through the closest banana Treasures, so that your thread is coming out between a banana and a peridot Treasure.
Add a peridot Treasure to the thread. Skip over the first peridot Treasure in your loop and go through the second peridot Treasure. This is the start of your peyote bezel. Continue the bezel with this peyote stitch technique until you are coming out of a banana Treasure. You can also watch our video tutorial for how to create a bezel like this.

The banana Treasures are the corners of your bezel and these will be continued with a modified herringbone stitch. Add two banana Treasures to your thread and come down through the next banana Treasure bead over.
Now your thread is coming out of a banana Treasure and is ready to start the peyote bezel for the next section of peridot Treasures. Add a peridot Treasure to the thread, skip over the first peridot Treasure in the loop and go through the second peridot Treasure. Continue the bezel until you are coming out of a banana Treasure.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you reach the start of your bezel. Then repeat the steps to make one more row of peridot Treasures and banana Treasures on the front of the bezel.
Now, add one row of 15/0 TOHO seed beads. When you reach the corner beads, do not add the two corner beads. Instead, pass through the corner beads and continue adding 15/0 beads to the sides. Then, create another row like this with 15/0 seed beads and add the 11/0 banana Treasures for the corners on this row.
Now you will make another row of 15/0 seed beads, but will skip adding a bead for every other stitch. So start the row coming out of a banana Treasure corner. Add a 15/0 bead and skip over the first bead in the previous row and go through the next bead. Then create a "blank" stitch by not adding a bead to the thread, but going over the "down" bead in the stitch and bringing the needle through the next "up" bead. When you reach the next banana Treasure corner, do not add more beads to the corner, but instead go through the existing corner beads and position the thread for the next section of 15/0 beads. Continue this row in the same manner to cinch up the front of the bezel.
For the next row, you will add banana Treasures between the 15/0 beads you added in the previous row, over the "blank" stitches from the previous row. Once again, do not add more corner beads.
You can now add a picot edge of 15/0 seed beads between the banana Treasures. Add three 15/0 beads between each banana Treasure in the previous row. Add five 15/0 beads to skip over the corners.
You have now completed the front of the peyote bezel. Lay the focal bead in the bezel to check the fit. Do not tie off or cut your thread.
Move your needle to the back of the bezel. Use the tail of your thread or add a new thread to start creating the back of the bezel. Add two rows of peridot Treasures to the back of the bezel to start.
Next, add two rows of 15/0 seed beads to the back of the bezel. Repeat steps 7 and 8 for the next rows of the back of the bezel to cinch up the back of the bezel to fit around the bead.
Position your thread so that it is coming out of the last peridot Treasure in the second row of beads on the bottom of the bezel. Now you will add the seed bead fringe. Add this pattern to the thread for the fringe:
Skip over the last 15/0 bead and bring your thread back through the rest of the beads in the fringe. Bring your thread through the next bead in the second row of beads on the bottom of the bezel. Repeat to add 8 more dangles.
Adding Fringe to Beaded Bezel Tutorial
Position your thread so that it is coming out of one of the peridot Treasures at the top of the bezel. You will add a seed bead bail to the top. We made 5 loops for the bail using 13 peridot Treasures for each loop. Secure and trim your thread and tail.
Cut a length of jewelry wire approximately 22 inches long. Slide a crimp tube on one end, followed by a closed jump ring. Bring the wire back through the crimp tube and crimp in place.
Add the following pattern to the wire:
Repeat this pattern twice.
Add a gold seed bead, a 4mm fire-polished bead, a 6mm fire-polished bead, and 3 melon beads to the wire. Slide your pendant onto the wire, over the melon beads. Add a 6mm fire-polished bead, a 4mm fire-polished bead, and a gold seed bead to the wire. Then, make a mirror image of the bead pattern on the other side of this focal.
Slide a crimp tube onto the end of the wire, followed by a closed jump ring. Bring the wire back through the crimp tube and crimp in place.
Add each half of the clasp to each end of the necklace using an open jump ring for each.
Nice choice! All or most of the products needed for this project are shown below with quantities. Sometimes we sell out of components and aren’t able to order more from the manufacturer (we know, it is very disappointing to us, too). Use the opportunity to mix up the design and make it yours by substituting similar products or altering the entire color scheme—it’s up to you!
