Mommy Black Leather Bracelet

Take a long piece, about eight feet, of 1.5mm black leather and fold it in half. It will help to pre-stretch your leather by clipping a weight on the ends and letting it hang for several hours. This will allow your cord to lay flat. Thread the 12mm round button in Crystal Tabac onto the leather so that it rests in the fold and tie two half-knots to secure the button. Next, cut eight feet of Fireline thread and tie the end around one of the leather cords using an overhand knot. Secure the knot of thread with GS hypo cement. Tie a third half-knot in the leather cords. Thread the black FireLine through a beading needle.

Secure the button end and the loose ends of the leather to a macramé board or use clips to clamp them to a beading board, leaving the black thread loose. If you don't have either of these you can secure them to a work surface with tape. You will want to position the cords so they stretch horizontally in front of you so that the button end is to the left and the loose ends to the right. This gives you a top cord, or the one farthest from you, and a bottom cord, the one closest to you, with a space that is approximately the size of the pearls you will be using.

Bring the black threaded needle under and to the outside of the bottom cord. Wrap the thread over the bottom cord and string a 4mm round pearl in Cream. Position the pearl so that it sits between the two cords. Wrap the thread under and then over the top cord. Thread the needle back through the bead and wrap the thread over the bottom cord. String a second pearl, position it, and wrap the thread under then over the top cord. Thread the needle back through the bead and wrap the thread over the bottom cord. Continue repeating this pattern until you have reached your desired length. When you've come to the last few inches of Fireline, pass the needle back through the last bead and around one side of the leather cord. Wrap around the cord a few times and then pass the needle under the wrap to make a secure knot. Add a dab of Hypo Cement. Re-thread the needle and use the wrapped knot to conceal the thread splice. Continue adding beads. You will want to keep the weave snug but not too tight and may need to help the first few beads settle into the right position. Keeping an even tension the full length.

After you string your last bead, knot the thread around the bottom cord, wrap around the leather then pass through the wrap and secure it with hypo cement. Pass the needle through the last bead and tuck the end under the wrapped knot, then snip end off. Remove the cords from the clamps. Tie the cords in an overhand knot. Move down the cord about 1/2-inch and tie a second overhand knot. The spaces between the knots will serve as the loops of a clasp to slide your button through, allowing you to have an adjustable length. The long length of the cord gives a layered look by wrapping the cord around your wrist several times.,

Child Purple Dragonfly Bracelet

Take a long piece, approximately two feet, of 1.5mm violet leather and fold it in half. Thread the silver and rhinestone dragonfly button onto the leather so that it rests in the fold and tie two half-knots to secure the button. Next, take an entire length of No.5 dark pink Griffin Bead Cord and tie the end around one of the leather cords using an overhand knot. Keep the needle the thread comes with attached. Secure the knot of thread with GS hypo cement. Tie a third half-knot with the leather cords to help conceal the pink knot.

Begin weaving by adding a 6mm fire-polished bead, pass the needle under the upper strand, up over it and then through the first bead. Once through the bead, pass the needle over the lower strand, add another bead and continue in this manner, keeping tension with the left hand.

This bracelet should stretch to be approximately 8 inches long, including the knotted ends, and should be a single-layer bracelet for your child.
