I created a full rich tassel with crochet thread and couldn't find just the right bead cap to finish it off, so I made my own!
Crystals create the perfect color palette in this intricate necklace design. Cheri used the 1-step looper from The Beadsmith to make custom beaded link chain featuring her chosen Blends. A bold tassel with a beaded cap completes the look.
Note: We used The Beadsmith 1-step 2.25mm looper plier to make the simple loops for our beaded links. If you prefer, you can make simple loops with the help of chain and round nose pliers, instead. It is important to note that one 1-inch antique brass-plated 20 gauge eye pin is long enough to make two links.
Make all of the links for the necklace using eye pins and beads from the 6mm Crystal Mix Cleopatra Gold Designer Blend and the 4mm Crystal Mix Cleopatra Turquoise Designer Blend. If you are using the 1-step looper, slide your bead onto the eye pin and form a loop on the other side of the bead. The remaining piece of wire will have a slight hook on one end. Place the end of the wire into the looper so that the hook gets cut off by the tool as it forms the loop. Slide a bead onto the straight end and then form a loop on the end to finish. We ended up with the following quantities of beaded links:
One 4mm Crystal Metallic Sunshine bicone link and one 6mm Vintage Gold pearl link. Repeat once.

Link the last and first link of your beaded link chain together to form the necklace.
Now you are going to make the beaded cap for your tassel. Use the tubular peyote stitch technique to make the cap. Alternate six 3mm Bright Gold pearls and six 3mm Crystal Metallic Sunshine faceted rounds on your thread, and then tie the 12 beads into a circle. Bring your thread through the beads until it is exiting a faceted round. These beads will form the first and second rows of your tubular peyote stitch. Continue the tubular peyote stitch and add these beads for each row:
Row one: Six Bright Gold pearls (already added)
Row two: Six Crystal Metallic Sunshine faceted rounds (already added)
Row three: Six Crystal Metallic Sunshine faceted rounds
Row four: Six 3mm Jade pearls
Row five: Six 3mm Jade pearls
Row six: Six 3mm Jade pearls
Row seven: Six Crystal Metallic Sunshine faceted rounds
Row eight: Six Crystal Metallic Sunshine faceted rounds
Row nine: Six Bright Gold pearls
Row ten: Six Bright Gold pearls
Row eleven: Six Crystal Metallic Sunshine faceted rounds
Row twelve: Three Crystal Metallic Sunshine faceted rounds
Row thirteen: Three 3mm Jade pearls
Weave your thread into the beads to secure it, but do not tie off or trim it yet. We will use the tail to secure the cap to the tassel. Weave the start thread into the beads to secure it, as well.
To create the tassel, use a piece of cardboard or other object that is approximately six inches long and a spool of size 20 crochet thread, which can be found at your local craft store. Wrap the crochet thread around the cardboard to the point that it will fill the beaded cap. There is more than enough thread on the spool to make your tassel. Cut the eye off of an eye pin and use the wire to wrap the bundle of thread at the top of the fold. Twist the wire and then trim. Turn the twist to the inside of the folded bundle so that it is hidden. Cut the threads at the other end. We will trim the ends evenly to length later, so don't worry about them being even yet.
Hook the eye of a second eye pin onto the wire at the top of the tassel bundle. Catch a few pieces of the thread as well, to help bury the eye of the eye pin. Close the eye of the loop tight around the wire. Thread the straight end of the eye pin through the opening in the center of your beaded cap and pull the cap over the tassel.
Slide a 6mm Pacific Opal bicone onto the wire, so that it nests at the top of the beaded cap. Create a wrapped loop at the top of the bead. If the eye of the loop sticks out too much and won't allow the bicone to nest in the hole of the beaded cap, slide a jump ring onto the wire before adding the bead cap. This will raise the cap a bit when you slide it on.
Thread your needle with the extra thread of your bead cap and run the thread back and forth through the tassel, hiding the thread through the beads as you go back and forth. Secure and trim the thread.
Use fabric scissors to trim the ends of the tassel to the length desired. Turn the tassel as you cut to get an even trim.
Slide a Kabela Design antique brass filigree bead onto an eye pin and make a simple loop at the end of the bead. Attach one end of this link to the loop at the top of your tassel. Attach a 4.5mm antique brass-plated 21 gauge open jump ring to the other loop at the top of the bead. Attach your tassel pendant to your necklace using an 8mm antique brass-plated open jump ring.
