Spider Link

Use a heavy duty cutter to alter the Kabela Design antique silver-plated brass Lola link. You will need to cut the ends of the link off at the second row of the pattern and file away any rough edges. Set aside.

Cut 3 feet of the Beadsmith smoke grey Fireline and thread it onto a beading needle. Thread the needle through one TOHO bead round 11/0 in opaque shiny jet black and tie a knot around the TOHO to create a stopper. Thread the needle through the 6mm faceted round in Jet. Next, thread the needle through the 4mm faceted round in Jet and then thread the needle back through the 6mm bead and the TOHO, manipulating the 4mm bead to make sure its stringing holes run perpendicular to the 6mm bead.

Thread the needle back through the 6mm bead, so the thread comes out between the 6mm and the 4mm bead. Decide which way you want the spider to face on the Lola link and which way you want the legs to spread out. String approximately ten TOHO 11/0 beads onto the thread. Loop the thread around a part of the link and knot it. Then bring the needle back up through the strand of TOHOs. Repeat stringing ten TOHOs on the opposite side of the spider, loop thread around part of the link, knot it and pass the needle back through the leg. Remember when making legs to criss-cross to opposite sides of the spider while anchoring the thread in between the 6mm and 4mm faceted rounds.

Make the remaining legs in the same manner. The next set of legs will contain eight 11/0 TOHOs each, the set after that will have nine 11/0 TOHOs each and the back legs will have twelve 11/0 TOHOs each. ,

Bracelet

Create a chain of one 6mm 18 gauge antique silver-plated open jump ring connected to a 5mm 18 gauge antique silver-plated open jump ring connected to another 6mm jump ring. For help with jump rings, see our Handy Tip video. Repeat three more times and set aside. Link three 6mm jump rings together. Repeat seven more times and set aside. Link two 6mm jump rings together. Repeat twenty-three more times and set those aside.

Cut a strand of jewelry wire approximately 5 inches long. Thread on the sterling silver 2x2mm crimp tube then thread the end of the wire through a 925/10 silver-filled cable and stringing thimble and attach to the Lola link. Thread the wire back through the crimp tube and crimp. Cover the crimp with a sterling silver sandblasted crimp cover. String the wire through the middle jump ring of one of the jump ring chains with the 5mm jump rings and then string on a TOHO bead round 15/0 in opaque shiny jet black. Make sure the middle jump ring rests atop the 15/0 TOHO.

Crimp Cover Tutorial

String on a 6mm XILION bicone in Crystal Astral Pink followed by another 15/0 TOHO and a chain of three 6mm jump rings. Again, the middle link in the chain should rest atop the TOHO. Repeat three more times, string on one last pattern of a bicone and a jump ring chain featuring a 5mm jump ring in the middle and finish with a TOHO. Close the end of the jewelry strand with a crimp tube and cover.

Attach a 6mm jump ring to the loop on the Lola link to the left of the beaded strand. Use a chain of two jump rings you made in step one to attach that jump ring to the outer 6mm jump ring of the chain resting above the first TOHO in the beaded jewelry strand. You want to make sure both jump rings in the chain of two are attached to each of the jump rings you are connecting. The chain of two will make a criss-cross pattern when attached to both jump rings. Connect all of the chains resting above TOHOs to the one below them in this manner. Repeat this step for the right side of the beaded strand.

Link the two outer jump rings of the last chain of three on the strand together with a 6mm jump ring. Attach as many 6mm jump rings as you need to this jump ring to make the bracelet long enough for you to wear. Repeat steps five through nine for the other side of the bracelet and attach the 12x6.5mm antique silver-plated trigger clasp to the jump ring at the end.
