These earrings have a cozy feeling to them. I think it's the combination of rich Velvet Brown pearls and sweet pink seed beads. They remind me of a round Russian doll face wrapped up in a scarf.
Velvet Brown pearls make a fabulous focal in these beaded earrings. Seed beads and bicones featuring the Shimmer effect surround the decadent pearls, adding texture, dimension, and color.
Working with a comfortable length of thread (you can add thread later if you need to), add a stopper bead to the end of the thread. Add a 12mm round pearl in Crystal Velvet Brown to the thread, as shown in figure 1 of the Beholden Earrings PDF Diagram. Add a TOHO 11/0 transparent French rose bead round (bead 1) to the thread and go back through the pearl. Add another 11/0 TOHO (bead 2) to the thread and go back through the pearl and bead 1.
Add 11 TOHO 11/0 beads to the thread, as shown in figure 2 of the diagram. Go through bead 2 and add 11 more beads to the thread. Go back through bead 1 and the first 11 beads you added. Knot your thread and tail together between the last bead and bead 2.
Now you are going to add beads with the peyote stitch technique to make a bezel for your pearl. Add an 11/0 bead, skip a bead, and then go through the next bead, as shown in figure 3 of the PDF diagram. Continue all the way around the pearl.
Add rows three and four of your peyote bezel in the same manner. Figure 4 of the PDF diagram includes a color-coded key for this step. Weave your thread so you are back at the center row and then add rows 5, 6, and 7. Row 7 will be made with the TOHO 15/0 mauve lined light topaz bead rounds, as this will cinch up the beads around the pearl. Weave your thread back to row 4 and add 15/0 TOHOs on top of this row to create row 8.
Weave your thread into the seed beads so that it is coming out of a center row seed bead, as marked with an x in figure 5 of the PDF diagram. Add an 11/0 seed bead and go through the next x bead in the center. Repeat until you've added six 11/0 seed beads.
With your thread coming out of the center bead as marked with an x in figure 6 of the PDF diagram, weave your thread back into the body of the bezel and back up into the 6th bead added.
Add an 11/0 TOHO, a 15/0 TOHO, and an 11/0 TOHO to the thread and go through bead 5, as shown in figure 7 of the PDF diagram. Repeat for another scallop, as shown in the diagram. Add three 11/0 TOHOs, a 5mm bicone in Light Colorado Topaz Shimmer, and a 15/0 seed bead to the thread. Go back through the bicone, add three more 11/0 TOHOs and go through bead 3. Make two more scallops in the same manner as the first. Weave your thread into the body of the bezel and back through bead 1 in the opposite direction.
With your thread coming out of bead 1, go back through the last scallop added and add a 15/0 seed bead, as shown in figure 8 of the PDF diagram. Go back through the first two beads of the next scallop. Add an 11/0 bead, a bicone, and a 15/0 bead. Go back up through the bicone and the 11/0 bead and then through the last bead of the scallop. Add a 15/0 bead to the thread and go through the large center scallop. Add a 15/0 bead and go through the first 11/0 bead in the next scallop. Add an 11/0 bead, a bicone, and a 15/0 bead. Go back through the bicone and the 11/0 bead. Go through the next two beads in the scallop. Add a 15/0 bead and go through all three beads of the next scallop.
Weave your thread to a center bead one over from the top center bead, as shown in figure 9 of the PDF diagram. Add an 11/0 bead to the thread (bead 1), then go through the top center bead. Add another 11/0 bead (bead 2) and go through the next center bead over. This is the same technique as the one shown in figure 5 and 6 of the diagram.
Go back through bead 2 as shown in figure 10 of the diagram and add another 11/0 bead. Add a center 15/0 bead and another 11/0 bead and go through bead 1 on the diagram. Weave your thread into the body of the bezel and back around into bead 1. Then, go through the next 11/0 bead and 15/0 bead and add an 11/0 bead, a bicone, and another 11/0 bead. Loop your thread around a 14K/20 gold-filled 3.0mm open jump ring and then go back through the 11/0 bead, bicone, and 11/0 bead. Go through the 15/0 bead and the two 11/0 beads to the other side of the center 15/0 bead. Weave back into the body of the bezel to secure and trim your thread.
Open the loop of the 14K/20 gold-filled ball end earwire and attach it to the jump ring at the top of the earring. Close the loop.
Repeat steps 1-11 to create the other earring.
