Swirling Lotus

Cut a 3-inch piece of wire from the Sea Glass Blues 20 Gauge Designer Wire Blend. If desired, you can smooth the ends of the wire with a cup burr or emery board.

Make a right angle bend one inch from one end of one piece of the wire. To form the bottom coil, grasp the long end with round nose pliers and make a small loop. Switch to chain nose pliers and hold the loop between the jaws. Use your fingers to continue coiling the wire around until you have a loose coil 3/8 to 1/2-inch in diameter. If you like, you can place the coil on a bench block or other work surface and hammer it gently to create subtle texture.

String a 7x9mm opaque blue and topaz with Picasso roundel bead onto the straight end of the wire. Bend the wire at a right angle at the top of the bead. Grasp the tip of the wire with round nose pliers and roll it into a small coil, switching to chain nose pliers if necessary. Again, you can create subtle texture with a hammer if you wish.

Use chain or flat nose pliers to straighten and align coils as necessary. String the TierraCast antique copper-plated pewter round lotus charm onto the large coil. Attach the TierraCast black niobium plain earwire to the small coil. Repeat steps one through four to create the second earring.

Repeat steps one through four using the Autumn 20 Gauge Designer Wire Blend, 9x6mm opaque ivory with half Picasso roundel beads, the TierraCast antique gold-plated pewter lotus charm and the gold-plated plain earwires to create the gold earrings.
