Chain is a wonderful option for all kinds of jewelry styles. Cheri used colorful two-tone chain as the foundation for her hoop earrings. Because the chain is so unique, it stands out beautifully on its own in the design.

Step-by-Step Instructions Expand All Steps

To make your hoop earring, you will be working with a length of 4mm turquoise and gold two-tone flat braided chain. You will be linking the two ends of chain together using the small center links of the chain that look slightly like a figure eight. Cut away the chain one link at a time to free up this link. Options for Finishing Chain

Lay the chain on a firm, flat surface and then curve the chain into a hoop. Let the chain determine the size. If the hoop is too large it will sag. It the hoop is too small, the ends will not meet without buckling. Try bending the chain in both directions – it may be more flexible one way and less flexible the other.

Determine which figure eight link you will connect to on the other end of the chain and then cut the other links on the chain past that link, to free it up. It is better to try a longer hoop and cut down to the next figure eight if sags.

With a pair of chain nose pliers, gently twist the figure eight links on each end of the chain so that it is perpendicular to the flat braid. This way, your jump ring will lie flat along with the rest of the chain. Connect the two ends of chain together using a gold-filled 14K 4.30mm open jump ring.

Open the loop of the 14K/20 gold-filled ball end earwire and add it to the jump ring. Close the loop.

Repeat steps 1-5 to make the other earring.
