Use epoxy to glue your flatbacks to a small brushed aluminum scale embellishment. You will be gluing the flatbacks to one side of the scale. Follow this pattern, placing the the flatbacks in a column from the pointed end to the open hole:

• Column closest to the middle of the scale: six SS7 rose enhanced flatbacks in Crystal
• Middle Column: One SS5 rose enhanced flatback in Crystal, followed by four SS7 flatbacks and one SS5 flatback
• Last column: One SS5 flatback and four SS7 flatbacks.

Repeat this pattern on 14 more scale embellishments. Set them aside and allow to dry.

Use the European 4 in 1 chain mail technique with the bright silver anodized aluminum 4.76mm 16 gauge open jump rings to create a chain for your necklace. Your chain will be two columns wide and 67 rows long. You can make your chain longer or shorter depending on how you want the necklace to hang.

Add one jump ring to the two jump rings on each end of the necklace. Then use another jump ring to attach half of the sterling silver 8mm magnetic bead clasp to each end of the necklace.

Find the center-most jump ring along one edge of the necklace. Use a jump ring to attach one scale to the center jump ring. Working to the left of the scale, skip two jump rings and add a second scale. Skip two more jump rings and add a third scale. Make a mirror image of this pattern on the right side of the center scale.

After attaching your first row of scales, it is easier to work from the back of the necklace. Hanging the necklace while working from the back works even better. Use a jump ring to link a new scale to the end scale of row one. Link the same new scale to the next scale in row one using another jump ring. Repeat this technique, adding a new scale between the second and third scales in row one, a new scale between the third and fourth scales in row one and so on. Add rows three, four and five in the same way.
