For this design I wanted to showcase a variety of textures and shapes, so I used several chains and bead types to get the overall look.
Layer on the style with this beautiful necklace idea as seen in Beadstyle's November 2012 issue Full of texture and shine, you will love this necklace's metallic silver tones and dramatic black accents. The shiny metal materials mixed with the delicate silk ribbons make for a bold style statement people won't soon forget. Learn how to make this necklace in ten easy steps.
Cut the 3 foot hand-dyed silk in ash grey with metallic silver edges and the 3 foot hand-dyed silk in jet black with metallic silver edges approximately 9 inches each.
Attach a 5.5mm gunmetal-plated 21 gauge open jump ring to each ribbons' ends using the 4x4mm sterling silver crimp tubes.
Connect the two jump rings you attached to the ribbons with one jump ring. Attach either the bar or loop component of the antique silver-plated pewter round floral design toggle clasp to that jump ring.
After twisting the ribbons together, it's time to close off the other end of the ribbons with an end cap. Using another 4x4mm crimp tube, crimp both of the ribbons together with the 2-inch gunmetal plated 20 gauge eye pin, making sure the top of the eye pin is in the crimp tube. Now that the ribbon ends are crimped to the eye pin, push all of this into the 6mm antique silver-plated pewter filigree end cap so that the end of the eye pin is sticking out of the stringing hole of the end cap.
Create a wrapped loop with the end of the eye pin. Repeat steps one through five to make the other half of the top part of this necklace.
Now it's time to start adding multiple strands. Cut a length of jewelry wire approximately 18 inches long. Attach a jump ring to the end of the jewelry wire using a 2x2 mm crimp tube. String on a pattern of the 5mm round pearl in Light Grey, a sterling silver 3.25mm spacer disc, a 9mm asymmetrical pearl in Dark Grey and another spacer disc. Repeat this pattern ten times and end it with another round pearl. Next, string on an alternating pattern of the 28mm wave in jet and the Cande Pavé 8mm silver-plated black diamond crystal round bead. Make a mirror image of the first pattern of round and asymmetrical pearls on the other side of this pattern. Attach a jump ring with a 2x2mm crimp tube. Attach the jump rings to the two wrapped loops you made in step five.
Cut the silver-plated oval link chain so that it is 21 links in length, or approximately 15 inches. Attach to the wrapped loops using jump rings. It is important to make sure each new strand is attached to the wrapped loop by working your way up. The jump rings you add will be attached above the last jump ring you added to the wrapped loop.
Cut the antique silver-plated circle and oval link chain so that it is 13 links in length or approximately 13 inches. Attach to each wrapped loop using jump rings.
Cut the 5mm gunmetal-plated textured circular cable chain so that it is approximately 11 inches in length. Attach to each wrapped loop using jump rings.
For the last strand, cut a length of jewelry wire approximately 9 inches long. Attach a jump ring to one end using a 2x2mm crimp tube. String on one 4mm faceted round in Crystal AB followed by a 9mm briolette pendant in Jet. Repeat this about 26 times to create an alternating pattern and finish the strand with a Crystal AB faceted round. Attach a jump ring to the other end using a 2x2mm crimp tube. Attach these jump rings to each of the wrapped loops. Your beautiful Biarritz necklace is now complete
