How to Use Cord and Cupchain

To create your leather bracelet, cut a piece of Regaliz 10mm flat leather to size. For a 7-inch bracelet, you will want to cut 7 1/2 inches to compensate for gluing the leather into the clasp. Take a look at our tutorial for how to measure Regaliz leather for bracelets. Glue the clasp onto both ends. Cut a length of 1mm Chinese knotting cord approximately 60 inches long. Remember, the amount of cord you need will vary depending on what size cord you use, what kind of cupchain you use and what type of leather you are working with. Place two inches of the cord behind the bracelet on one end.

Wrap the cord around the leather and around the end of the cord seven times.

Place your cupchain on the front of the bracelet and wrap the eighth loop of the cord around the first crystal in the chain. This loop should be in between the first and second crystal in the chain. Make another wrap around these two crystals.

Repeat wrapping your cord in between the crystals in this manner until you reach the end of the cupchain. As you go, make sure you pull the cord tight.

This is what the back of your bracelet will look like as you wrap the cord around it.

On the other end of your bracelet, wrap the cord around seven times, as you did in step two.

On the back of the bracelet, use tweezers to loosen up the cords on the end.

Bring the tail of the cord through five of your seven wraps.

With your tweezers, pull on each of the wraps until you reach the clasp. This will tighten the cords together.

Trim your cord and burn the end with a thread burner. Tap gently on the cord as you burn it and the ends will melt onto the wraps, creating a nice seal.
