Western Lariat Necklace Tutorial

Cut a length of suede or leather to choker length, keeping in mind the clasp will add some length. We do not carry the cord used in TierraCast's example, but you can find similar alternatives in our Perfect Product Pairings below. Try 3mm deertan lace from Leather Cord USA. A typical choker length is about 16 inches.

Cut another length of cord about 20-24 inches long. This length will be part of the lariat design. Glue one end of this cord and an end of your choker cord into a TierraCast 4mm antique copper-plated brass Pagoda cord end cap and allow to dry.

Cut another length of cord to the same length as the last one. Glue one end of this cord and the other end of your choker cord into another end cap and allow to dry.

Slide a TierraCast antique copper-plated pewter Western button onto both ends of the long cords on your necklace.

Attach a TierraCast antique copper-plated pewter small feather charm to a 6-inch length of 24 gauge Copper Artbeads Designer Wire by making a wrapped loop. Then, add some beads to the wire. We do not carry the exact beads used in TierraCast's example, but you can try using leftover beads you have from other projects or take a look at the beads in our Perfect Product Pairings below. When you've added the desired amount of beads, make a wrapped loop at the top. Repeat to make another dangle.

Wrapped Loop Tutorial

Attach a TierraCast antique copper-plated pewter 2-inch feather pendant to a 2-inch length of Designer Wire by making a wrapped loop. Bring the wire through a TierraCast antique copper-plated pewter Western bead. Loop the wire back around the other side of the bead and make a wrapped loop to secure the bead vertically to the feather.

Cut a six-inch length of designer wire and make a wrapped loop on the other side of the Western bead. Add some beads to the wire. You want this dangle to be a little longer than your other two feather dangles. When you've added the desired amount of beads, make a wrapped loop at the top.

Open a TierraCast 8mm copper-plated brass open round jump ring and add a short feather dangle, the long feather dangle, and the last short feather dangle. Attach this jump ring to the shank of your Western button.

Wire wrap a 2-inch feather pendant to each end of your lariat using Designer Wire for each.

Attach a TierraCast 15x9mm antique copper-plated brass lobster clasp to the end cap at one end of your necklace using a TierraCast 4mm copper-plated brass open round jump ring. Attach an 8mm jump ring to the end cap at the other end of your necklace.
