I love the globally-influenced look of the TierraCast beads and findings I used in this necklace. The beads dangling in the fringe of the beaded macrame pendant look like the tops of the Taj Mahal!
TierraCast offers all kinds of inspiring components that will create amazing detail in your designs. Cheri used their ethnic bar link as the base for her beaded macrame pendant and then accented the look with beads featuring the same look. Cut three lengths of The Beadsmith S-Lon micro bead cord in Sand and two lengths of The Beadsmith S-Lon mirco bead cord in turquoise, each two feet long. Fold each length in half and attach each one in an alternating color pattern to a different loop on the TierraCast brass oxide pewter ethnic bar link using a lark's head knot. To do this, you will bring the folded end of the cord through the loop in the link, bring the ends of the cord through the fold in the cord and pull tight to cinch up the knot to the bar link.
Pin the bar link to a macrame board and spread the 10 ends of cord out in the slots at the bottom of the board.
Starting on the left side of your bar link, slide a fire-polished 2mm bead in turquoise onto the second cord (the right-hand cord of the first turquoise cord set). Slide a fire-polished 2mm bead in matte metallic flax onto the third cord (the left-hand cord of the first sand cord set).
Add a pin to the board between these two beads. Begin to knot these two pieces of cord together, as shown in the image.
Finish the knot with a square knot, as shown in the image. Be sure to knot each knot the same from here on.
Your tightened knot should be up against the pin, as shown in the image.
Add a gold bead to the fourth cord and a turquoise bead to the fifth cord. Knot together as you did for the first set of beads. Repeat for the six seventh, eighth, and ninth cords.
Add two turquoise beads to the first cord on the left (back at at the beginning of your sequence) and then add one turquoise bead to the second cord. Knot the ends of these cords together. Then, add one bead to each cord as you did in the previous row. When you come to the last cord, add two beads, as you did for the first cord.
Continue adding beads in this manner to make eight rows of beads.
Knot the first two turquoise cords together. Add a gold fire-polished bead to both cords, followed by 13 TOHO 15/0 bead rounds in bronze, two gold fire-polished beads, a TierraCast brass oxide pewter ethnic barrel bead, a gold fire-polished bead, and a bronze seed bead. Make a double knot at the end of the beads and secure the knot with adhesive if desired.
Knot the next two sand cords together. Add a gold fire-polished bead to both cords, followed by four bronze seed beads, a turquoise fire-polished bead, a TierraCast brass oxide pewter ethnic short bead, a turquoise fire-polished bead, and a bronze seed bead. Make a double knot at the end of the beads to secure.
Knot the next two turquoise cords together. Add a gold fire-polished bead to both cords, followed by 19 bronze seed beads, two gold fire-polished beads, a barrel bead, a gold fire-polished bead, and a bronze seed bead. Make a double knot at the end of the beads to secure.
Repeat steps 11 and 10 to make the tassels for the next two sets of cord.
Add a turquoise fire-polished bead to a Vintaj natural brass 1.5-inch 21 gauge eye pin, followed by a TierraCast brass oxide pewter ethnic long bead and another turquoise fire-polished bead. Make a simple loop at the top of the beads. Repeat for a total of two links.
Attach a seven-link length of Vintaj natural brass 3.5mm cable chain to one side of the top of the bar link using two 5mm antique brass-plated open jump rings linked together. Attach one of your links to the end of this chain using a jump ring. Attach an 11-inch length of chain to the end of your link using a jump ring. Repeat on the other side of the bar link.
Attach a jump ring to one end of the necklace. Attach the 12x7mm antique brass-plated trigger clasp to the other end of the necklace using a jump ring.
