Long Ago and Far Far Away Necklace Tutorial

String the beads from the Far Far Away 8/0 Designer Seed Bead Blend onto your spool of size 20 fine cotton crochet thread in an 8-bead sequence following this pattern: teal green, black, amethyst, metallic olive green, teal green, black, amethyst, metallic olive green. This bead sequence equals one row in the rope. For a 24-inch long rope, string about 264 rows, ending with a complete 8-bead pattern. If you lose count of rows, this amounts to about 14 feet and 10 inches of strung beads. You can also think of it this way: every 6 to 8 inches of strung beads amounts to about one inch of crocheted rope, depending on size variations from bead to bead and how loose or tight you crochet. It is better to string too many beads onto your thread, rather than having too few and running out of beads once you start crocheting.

Start creating your crochet rope. You may find crocheting with dark thread and dark beads difficult, especially if you are a beginner. You can always practice with lighter thread and beads beforehand to get the technique just right. When your crochet rope is the desired length, finish the ends.

Beaded Crochet Rope Tutorial

Glue a TierraCast 10mm antique copper-plated brass pagoda cord end cap over the end of the rope using the 5-minute two-part epoxy and allow to dry. Repeat for the other end of the necklace.

Cut a length of antique copper-plated round links on round cable chain approximately 2 1/2 inches long. Attach it to one end of the crochet rope using an 8mm antique copper-plated open jump ring. Repeat this step on the other end of the necklace.

String a 6mm Crystal Luminous Green bicone onto a 2-inch antique copper-plated 20 gauge eye pin, followed by a purple pearl from the Longa Ago Blend and another 6mm Crystal Luminous Green bicone. Make a simple loop at the end. Open the loop and attach it to one end of the necklace. Close the loop to secure it in place.

String a purple pearl from the Long Ago Blend onto an eye pin, followed by the Venetian glass amethyst and silver lentil bead and another purple pearl. Make a simple loop at the end of the eye pin. Open the loop and attach it to the other end of the necklace. Close the loop to secure it in place.

Add the bar component of the TierraCast antique copper large beaded clasp set to the simple loops on both ends of the necklace using a TierraCast medium oval copper open jump ring. This will close the necklace.

String the Venetian glass amethyst and silver teardrop bead onto an eye pin and make a simple loop at the top of the bead. String a purple pearl onto a head pin and add it to the bottom of the eye pin by creating a simple loop at the top of the pearl. Attach the top of the eye pin to the loop component of the toggle clasp using an oval jump ring. You can now dangle this focal from your necklace by hanging it from the toggle bar.

Using the Long Ago Designer Blend, and the remaining crystal bicones, faceted rounds, globe beads, cabochettes and the mini drop bead, create 35 dangles with the 1-inch antique copper-plated 21 gauge head pins. Make a simple loop at the top of each dangle you create. Switch up the length and bead patterns of each dangle to create variety. Then, use the simple loops to add these dangles to both of the chain sections of your necklace to your liking. If the Venetian teardrop dangle gets in your way, you can always unclasp it from the bar component of the toggle set.
