Gaelic Weave

Take a long piece, about three feet, of 1.5mm natural leather and fold it in half. Thread an antique silver Celtic knot button onto the leather so that it rests in the fold and tie two half-knots to secure the button. Next, take an entire length of jade green No. 7 Griffin Bead Cord and tie the end around one of the leather cords using an overhand knot. Keep the needle, the thread comes with, attached. Secure the knot of thread with GS hypo cement. Tie a third half-knot with the leather cords to help conceal the jade green knot.

Wrap Bracelet Tips

Secure the button end and the loose ends of the leather to a macramé board or use clips to clamp them to a beading board, leaving the thread loose. If you don't have either of these you can secure them to a work surface with tape. You will want to position the cords in front of you so that the button end is to the left and the loose ends to the right. This gives you a top cord, or the one farthest from you, and a bottom cord, the one closest to you, with a space that is approximately the size of the beads you will be using.

Now you are ready to begin weaving. Bring the thread under and to the outside of the bottom cord. Wrap the thread over the bottom cord and string a 6mm metallite antique silver faceted round bead. Position the bead so that it lays between the two cords. Wrap the thread over and then under the top cord. Thread the needle back through the bead and wrap the thread under then over the bottom cord. String a second bead, position it, and wrap the thread over then under the top cord. Thread the needle back through the bead and wrap the thread under then over the bottom cord. Thread the third bead, etc. Continue repeating this pattern until you have reached your desired length. You will want to keep the weave snug but not too tight and may need to help the first few beads settle into the right position. Our bracelet contains 35 beads and is 7-inches in length, not including the clasp and knots.

After you string your last bead, knot the thread around the bottom cord and secure it with hypo cement. Remove the cords from the clamps. Hold the thread against one of the cords and tie the cords and thread in a half-knot followed by an overhand knot. Move down the cord about 3/4-inch before tying a second overhand knot. The space between these two knots will serve as the loop of the clasp.
