Custom Tassels

Add six rows of Miyuki 11/0 opaque semi-matte blue-grey Delicas. Then, step up as if to start another row. Follow the Seed Bead Cap Diagram PDF to close up the top of the peyote tube. As the red line in the diagram shows, add bead 1 and 2, then skip a bead. Repeat this pattern of adding two and skipping a bead to add beads 3-10. Then, finish the row by skipping a bead. Step up through bead 1 and skip through bead 2, as the green line shows. Add bead 11 and skip through beads 3 and 4. Repeat this pattern of adding a bead and skipping to add beads 12-15.

Skip through beads 1 and 2 and step up through bead 11, as the blue line shows. Add bead 16 and then go through bead 12. Add bead 17 and then go through bead 13. Repeat this pattern to add 18, 19 and 20. Go through bead 11 and step up through bead 16, as the second red line shows. Add bead 21 and go through bead 17. Add bead 22 and then go through bead 18. Repeat this pattern to add beads 23, 24 and 25. Circle the thread through beads 21-25 again to cinch it up. This is the end of the pattern. The beads may be loose, so you can go through the weave and tighten up the stitching in a symmetrical way.

Make a tassel using The BeadSmith .8mm dark brown Chinese knotting cord. Tie off the tassel with a piece of 20 gauge Copper Artbeads Designer Wire. Thread the end of the wire through the hole at the top of the seed bead cap. Add a TierraCast antique copper 7mm nugget heishi spacer to the wire and make a wrapped loop at the top of the spacer.

You can make the same seed bead caps with 11/0 TOHO seed beads, but they will be significantly bigger than caps made with Miyuki Delicas. These bigger caps work perfectly with Leather Cord USA leather tassels. To attach a cap to one of these tassels, insert the tassel into the cap. Push or thread the loop of the leather tassel through the hole on the top of the beaded cap. Weave your thread through the tassel to the other side of the cap and then through a bead. Repeat this several times, passing back and forth through the leather inside the cap to secure. Now you can easily attach your tassels to jewelry designs.
