It's easy to create colorful designs with Chinese knotting cord. When tied and layered together in designs, this cord creates unique style. Step-by-Step Instructions Expand All Steps

Cut four one-yard lengths of the Lovely Knots 2mm light chocolate Chinese knotting cord and two one-yard lengths of the Lovely Knots 2mm turquoise Chinese knotting cord. Tie two of the brown lengths and one turquoise length together and a tie a knot at the end. Repeat and pin or tape these two bundles to your work surface.

Work with the bundle of cord on your left and make sure the turquoise strand is in the center. Form the cords into a loop with the ends crossing over the beginning of the loop. Be sure to keep the cords flat. Use pins or tape where you need it to keep the cords in place.

Now you are going to work with the bundle of cord on your right. Lay the cords under the top and bottom section of the loop in the left bundle. Then, you will lay it over the tail end of the loop in the left bundle.

Next, cross the cords under the cords in the left bundle and over the top of the loop as pictured.

These cords will then go under themselves and over the bottom of the loop.

This is how your cords should look after step five.

Pull the cords to form a nice knot, always making sure to keep the cords flat.

Make another loop with the cords in the left bundle. This time, cross the ends of the cords under the beginning of the loop.

Now cross the cords in the right bundle over the top and bottom of the loop and under the tail of the loop.

Then you will take the cords from the right bundle over the left bundle cords and under the top of the loop.

Now the cords will come over themselves and under the bottom of the loop.

This is how your cords should look after step 11.

Pull the cords to tighten the knot.

For the third knot, loop the cord over itself as you did in step two and repeat steps three through six. For the fourth knot, repeat steps eight through 12. Continue alternating the knots until you have the length you need.

We created six knots for our bracelet.

Pin the ends of the cords in place and a lay a piece of tape over them.

Measure a half of an inch away from the end of the last knot and mark the tape.

Remove the pins and wrap the tape around the ends of the cords. Make sure to keep them flat. Cut the ends on the mark, through the tape. Apply some adhesive to the ends of the cords if you like.

Attach the ribbed cord ends from your 7mm silver-plated brass kumihimo ribbed cord end and toggle kit to each end of the bracelet. Attach the loop and bar toggle clasp components of the kit to the ribbed cord ends using sterling silver 5.35mm open jump rings.
